Warm welcome at Madinah airport for pilgrims

The first pilgrims hosted this year by King Salman’s Program for Umrah and Visit arrived in Madinah on Wednesday.

The first batch of guests includes 185 pilgrims, and the second is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, completing the first group of 220.

The pilgrims are from 15 countries in Asia and Africa including Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Senegal, Mali, Malaysia, Pakistan, India and Uzbekistan.

The program is implemented and supervised by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance.

The program’s officials welcomed the guests at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Madinah.

The guests paid tribute to King Salman for hosting them within this program to perform Umrah and stay for several days in Madinah.

They stressed that the program comes in the context of the venerable and good efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia and its leaders in serving Islam, providing support for Muslims, and creating ways that enable them to perform Haj and Umrah.

They hailed the importance of this program in achieving continuous communication with Muslims around the world.

Abdullah bin Mudlij Al-Medlej, executive director of the Program for Umrah and Visit, welcomed the guests.

“An itenary was designed for the guests in Madinah and Makkah to acquaint them with the Kingdom’s care of the Two Holy Mosques and serving the Holy Qur’an,” Al-Medlej said in a statement.King Salman’s Program for Umrah

New Umrah Fee For Short Stay

SR500 Umrah fee for short stay under consideration

An Umrah visa fee of SR500 for pilgrims who will stay in the Kingdom for a maximum of five days is under consideration, Haj and Umrah Minister Mohammed Saleh Bantan was quoted as saying in a section of the Arabic press on Monday.
“This is one of many other options the ministry is considering,” Al-Madina daily quoted him as saying.
From October, a revised visa fee structure has been implemented in the Kingdom.
New Umrah Fee For Short Stay

The first entry of Haj and Umrah pilgrims will be free, but for subsequent entries they will be charged SR2,000.
The minister said the new Haj and Umrah fees will not constitute any financial burden on Muslims as the Saudi government will bear the fees for first-time pilgrims.
Bantan called for consolidating the concept of hospitality for the guests of Allah through creative projects.
He said the hospitality industry requires getting rid of the brokers. “This should be replaced by the old system of hospitality when the guests of God were served free of charge for the sake of Allah,” he said.
Bantan was talking at the closing ceremony of the month-long Hara Makkawiya festival which concluded on Sunday.
Head of Al-Nuzha neighborhood Sheikh Adel Amin Hafiz said the festival showcased the historical and cultural heritage of the holy city. More than 470 antiquities were shown during the festival in which about 180 productive families participated.
Ten cultural seminars were held during the festival which hosted 20 government and private departments and received about 34 delegations. “More than 200,000 people visited the festival which was a window through which the modern generations could look at the achievements of their ancestors,” said Hafiz.

Umrah Overstayers Warned of Heavy Fines

The Passports Department (Jawazat) has warned those who opt to stay in the Kingdom after the expiry of their Umrah or visit visa with fines reaching up to SR50,000, six-month imprisonment and deportation.

“No Umrah pilgrim or a visitor should remain in the Kingdom after the expiry of the validity of his/her visa,” the Jawazat said in a statement.

It asked all those who have arrived through the Kingdom’s air, land or sea inlets not to delay their stay in the Kingdom beyond the validity of their entry visa.

It asked all those who arrived in the Kingdom on Umrah or visit visa to strictly abide by the duration of stay fixed for them in their visas.
Umrah Overstayers Warned of Heavy Fines

The Jawazat asked citizens and expatriates to ask the visitors to leave on time and to report those who purposely delay their departure. “Those who fail to report overstayers will receive the same punishment in addition to deportation if they are foreigners,” it said.

The Jawazat also warned citizens and expatriates never to host, hide, employ, transport or extend any kind of assistance that may help pilgrims or visitors to overstay.

“Those who help the pilgrims and visitors overstay in the Kingdom will be fined SR100,000, imprisoned for six months and deported if they are expatriates,” it said.

The Jawazat also asked all the Haj companies to report the overstayers otherwise they will be punished with heavy fines.

It also asked all companies, firms and individuals not to hire the overstayers otherwise they will be severely punished.

Top 10 Reasons Pilgrims Get Lost in Makkah

Reasons why pilgrims get lost in Makkah

Old age, language problem, getting separated from group are some of the reasons why pilgrims get lost in the Grand Mosque and the central area around it.

Makkah Arabic daily has put together a list of the top ten reasons. Usually, pilgrims try to find those who speak their language or police officers to ask for direction to their hotel. This becomes a real problem when a pilgrim is unable to communicate with authorities or when he or she is unaware of the name or location of his or her hotel.

“You also need to take into account the age of pilgrims and their social and cultural backgrounds,” said supervisor of Turkish pilgrims Ahmad Halabi, who stressed that the Saudi Ministry of Haj pays special attention to lost pilgrims and make sure that they reach their destination.

He cited a number of reasons and factors why pilgrims get lost, which include old age. Elderly pilgrims find it difficult to remember the doors through which they entered the Grand Mosque. “The Grand Mosque is big and the streets and roads around it are confusing. Some insist on leaving their hotels alone and refuse to stay with the group. That’s when most of the accidents happen,” Halabi said.

“Some pilgrims refuse to carry wrist bands, which contain their names and location,” he said.
Top 10 Reasons Pilgrims Get Lost in Makkah

The Makkah Municipality is working to develop an indicative map of Makkah and major important sites in the city, he said.

1. Old age
2. Language problem
3. Unfamiliarity with maps
4. Not knowing the name and location of accommodation
5. Not knowing the name of the office for pilgrim affairs
6. Unfamiliarity with the name of the street or neighborhood
7. Not paying attention to nearby landmarks
8. Ditching the group
9. Removing the wrist band
10. Going to the Grand Mosque from one road and leaving from another.

Wattakhidhoo min‐maqaami ibraaheema musalla
(And take you (people) the Maqaam (place) of Ibraheem as a place of Prayer.)

There is no specific duaa’s that must be read during the Tawaf. Make as many supplications from your heart, for that which will benefit you. Recite whatever you wish, supplicate to Allaah by asking for good, recite the Quran, anything you wish.

But there are several recommended supplications listed in the books of Hajj and Umrah out of which the following supplication is easy to memorize:

سُبْحَان الِلّه وَ الْحَمْدُ   لِلّهِ وَ لآ اِلهَ اِلّا اللّهُ، وَ اللّهُ اَكْبَرُ وَلا حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ  اِلَّا بِاللّهِ الْعَلِىّ الْعَظِيْم
"Subhan-Allah wal-hamdu-lillahi wa la ilaha ill-Allah wa-Allahu Akbar wa la haula wa la quwwata illa-billah."
If you don’t remember these words, you may glorify Allah by repeatedly :
سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ - SubhanAllahi wa biHamdihi (Glory be to Allah and Praise Him).
Subhan Allah,
Al-Hamdu lillah,
Allahu Akbar,
La Ilaha Illallah, etc.

The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) has said that there are two kalimahs that are light on tongue and (on the day of judgment) they weigh heavy on the scale (Mizan) and are liked by Allah. These kalimahs are:

Subhan Allah Wabe Hamde hi Subhan Allah Hil Azeem (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi)

You may also use supplications used in the daily Salah or you may seek forgiveness of Allah and ask Him whatever you wish in your own language.

After Completing tawaf Pray two short Rak’ahs, as close as conveniently possible behind Maqaam-e Ibraheem. If it is not possible then you can pray them anywhere in the sacred mosque.

It is preferred to recite during the first Rak’ah (after Surah Al Fatiha), Surah Al-Kafiroon and during the second Rak’ah (after Surah Al Fatiha) Surah Al-lkhlaas.

Make duaa before drinking ZAM-ZAM water and Pour water over your head. After drinking zamzam water say ‘alhamdulillah’ and then recite the following dua:
" اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعا، ورزقا واسعا، وشفاء من كل داء "
Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilmannafi’an wa rizqan waasi’an wa shifa’an min kulli daa’in

(O Allaah, I ask You to grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance and a cure from every disease.)
Wudhu is mandatory for during tawaf and It is a Sunnah to be in the state of ablutions during Sa’ey.

Sa’yee between the hills of Safa and Marwah:
It is a Sunnah to be in the state of ablutions during Sa’ey.

Start of Sa’ey at Safa. Climb the hill of Safa and make intention (niyyah) for Sa’ey:
" O Allah! I perform Sa’ey between Safa and Marwah to please You. Make it easy for me and accept it from me."
Now recite:
"Inn-as-Safa wal-Marwah min Sha’a’irillah." (Al-Qur’an 2 : 158)
(Indeed Safa and Marwah are among the Signs of Allah.)

After this climb Safa to the point from where you can see the Ka’bah, then facing the Ka’bah raise your hands in supplication, say Allahu Akbar three times and recite the following supplication or ask Allah whatever you wish:

"La ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la Sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa ‘ala kulli shai’in Qadeer."
(or)
Allaahu akbar allaahu akbar allaahu akbar. Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Wahdahu laa Sharika lah, Lah ul‐Mulk, Wa lah ul‐Hamd, Wa huwa ‘ala Kulli shay’in Qadeer, Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Anjaza wa’dah, Wa Nasara ‘abdah, Wa hazam al‐Ahzaba wahdah

"Subhan-Allah wal-hamdu-lillahi wa la ilaha ill-Allah wa-Allahu Akbar wa la haula wa la quwwata illa-billa."

If you don’t remember this supplication also, recite Subhan Allah, Alhamdu Lillah, Allahu Akbar repeatedly and keep moving. You may also praise Allah and ask for His mercy in your language or use supplications taken from the daily Salah. When you reach two green pillars between which men have to run but the women walk with their normal pace. At Marwah. When on top of marwah, praise Allah facing the Ka’bah and repeat the same supplications that were recited at Safa. One trip is over, second trip will be on Safa and third trip will be on Marwah.End of Sa’ey.

In the same way, the seventh trip will end at Marwah. In all trips the men will run between the green pillars but the women will walk in a normal way.
After Completing Sai, Trim/Cut the hair.

Shaving hair or cut hair equally from all over head:
After Completing Sai, Trim/Cut the hair.
It is recommended for men are to shave all their hair, but they can trim it all the way round Women are to shorten their hair by a finger tip.

Note: Some people remove their IHRAAM by cutting only a little hair from two or three sides, remember it is not allowed. The men doing this must have to slaughter an animal. Rather get your head shaved or get it cut in such a way that almost each and every hair is cut.

Now your UMRAH is complete, remove your IHRAAM. As long as you are in MAKKAH keep doing NAFIL TAWAAF, you can do another UMRAHS also but it is better to do TAWAAF.

Among a large crowd of people, if it is possible to reach Multazam, cling to it pressing your chest and cheeks, and while trembling and crying with devotion and with all humility seek Allah’s mercy, His blessings and ask Him whatever you wish. If you are unable to come close to Multazam, just face towards it and supplicate from a distance.

Each numbered item in the following list corresponds to features noted in the diagram image.
  1. Al-Ħajaru al-Aswad, "the Black Stone", is located on the Kaaba's eastern corner. Its northern corner is known as the Ruknu l-ˤĪrāqī, "the Iraqi corner", its western as the Ruknu sh-Shāmī, "the Levantine corner", and its southern as Ruknu l-Yamanī, "the Yemeni corner". The four corners of the Kaaba roughly point toward the four cardinal directions of the compass. Its major (long) axis is aligned with the rising of the star Canopus toward which its southern wall is directed, while its minor axis (its east-west facades) roughly align with the sunrise of summer solstice and the sunset of winter solstice.
  2. The entrance is a door set 2.13 m (7 ft) above the ground on the north-eastern wall of the Kaaba, which acts as the façade. In 1979 the 300 kg gold doors made by chief artist Ahmad bin Ibrahim Badr, replaced the old silver doors made by his father, Ibrahim Badr in 1942.There is a wooden staircase on wheels, usually stored in the mosque between the arch-shaped gate of Banū Shaybah and the Zamzam Well.
  3. Meezab-i Rahmat, rainwater spout made of gold. Added in the rebuilding of 1627 after the previous year's rain caused three of the four walls to collapse.
  4. Gutter, added in 1627 to protect the foundation from groundwater.
  5. Hatim (also romanized as hateem), a low wall originally part of the Kaaba. It is a semi-circular wall opposite, but not connected to, the north-west wall of the Kaaba known as the hatīm. This is 90 cm (35 in) in height and 1.5 m (4.9 ft) in width, and is composed of white marble. At one time the space lying between the hatīm and the Kaaba belonged to the Kaaba itself, and for this reason it is not entered during the tawaf. According to western scholars the space contains the remains of Hagar and Ishmael as it is called hidjr Ismail
  6. Al-Multazam, the roughly 2 meter space along the wall between the Black Stone and the entry door. It is sometimes considered pious or desirable for a hajji to touch this area of the Kaaba, or perform dua here.
  7. The Station of Abraham (Maqam Ibrahim), a glass and metal enclosure with what is said to be an imprint of Abraham's feet. Abraham is said to have stood on this stone during the construction of the upper parts of the Kaaba, raising Ismail on his shoulders for the uppermost parts.
  8. Corner of the Black Stone (East).
  9. Corner of Yemen (South-West). Pilgrims traditionally acknowledge a large vertical stone that forms this corner.
  10. Corner of Syria (North-West).
  11. Corner of Iraq (North-East). This inside corner, behind a curtain, contains the Babut Taubah, Door of Repentance, which leads to a staircase to the roof.
  12. Kiswah, the embroidered covering. Kiswa is a black silk and gold curtain which is replaced annually during the Hajj pilgrimage. Two-thirds of the way up is a band of gold-embroidered Quranic text, including the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith.
  13. Marble stripe marking the beginning and end of each circumambulation.
  14. The station of Gabriel.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh, Dear brothers and siters in islam, May allah accept your Umrah and Hajj, and may allah give chance to visit regularly to this place. Also make dua for ummah of prophet mohammed and include me in your prayers and Dua.

The Virtues of Hajj and Umrah in English

The Virtues of Hajj and Umrah in English

“Whoever performs Hajj and does not indulge in obscenity or transgression will come out as sinless as a newborn child (just delivered by his mother).” (Al-Bukhari 1820)

Hajj is one of the greatest and best righteous deeds that pleases our Lord. Abu Hurrairah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

“The Prophet (PBUH) was asked, “Which is the best deed?” He said, “To believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad, PBUH).” He was then asked, “Which is the next (in goodness)?” He said, “To participate in Jihad in Allah’s Cause.” He was again asked, “Which is the next?” He said, “To perform Hajj-Mabrur.” (Al-Bukhari 1519) (Hajj-Mabrur is the accepted Hajj or Hajj that is free from vices and defects)

The reward of Hajj-Mabrur is nothing but Paradise. Abu Hurrairah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said:

“(The performance of) Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous one. And the reward of Al-Hajj Al-Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing but Paradise.” (Al-Bukhari 1773)

The pilgrim and Mu‘tamir (one who performs Umrah) are the delegates or the guests of Allah (Wafd Allah). Abu Hurrairah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said:

“The guests of Allah are three: The Gahzi (the warrior who fights in Jihad), the pilgrim and the person performing Umrah.” (An-Nisai 2626)

These three are the special guests of Allah because their long journey is purely for the sake of Allah. They are, as it were, going forth to meet Allah, the Most High.

* The Prophet (PBUH) said: “From one Umrah to another is expiation for what comes in between, and ‘Hajje Mabrur’ brings no reward less than the Paradise.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

* The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sin as the bellows removes impurity from iron, gold and silver.” (Tirmizi, Ibne Majah)

* The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Those who perform Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. If they pray to Allah, He accepts it, if they ask for His forgiveness, He forgives them.” (Ibne Majah)

* The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

In another tradition, The Prophet (PBUH) said: “To perform Umrah during Ramadan is equal to performing Hajj with me.” (Muslim)

The Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam said, “Umrah in Ramadhan is equivalent to Hajj (in reward).” (Ibn Hibbān)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) then told her: “When the month or Ramadan arrives, go for ‘umrah, because `umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying me on Hajj.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (1764)]

No Backing Off on Umrah Fee Change

No backing off on Umrah fee, says Saudi Ministry of Haj

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah have denied rumors published in the Pakistani media and spread on social media that the ministry removed Umrah fees that were placed by the Kingdom on the second or additional Umrah visits.

New amendments were introduced to visa fees in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of 1438, when the government announced that the fees are fully paid by the Saudi government for all first-time pilgrims coming for either Haj or Umrah. The first entry of Haj and Umrah pilgrims will be free, but for the second and subsequent entries, they will be charged SR2,000.

Usama Khan, from the Ministry of Haj, Call and Guidance information center, confirmed to Arab News that no such information or announcement was made by the Ministry of Haj and Umrah that they removed the SR2,000 fee, and that whatever was published in the Pakistani media and on social media is false news or rumors.

Tahir Mahmood, chief executive of Global Haj and Umrah Private Service Ltd. from Pakistan also confirmed to Arab News that there has been no such instruction or announcement made by the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah that the Umrah fees have been abolished.

On inquiry of the news published in the Pakistani media and spread on social media about the removal of Umrah fees, he said that it was not from an authentic source and was a rumor. However the Pakistani public are requesting that the Kingdom and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman remove the extra charges, because a number of Pakistani families and people who want to come for Umrah would not be able to make it because of the fee.

“Many people from Pakistan will not be able to make their Umrah trip because they don’t have enough funds to pay this extra charges of SR2,000. It’s a request from the Pakistani people to the Kingdom to remove these charges so they can make their journey to perform Umrah,” he said.

No Backing Off on Umrah Fee ChangeThe Pakistan Umrah Agent Association urged people not to spread rumors on social media, since there has been no announcement made by the Ministry of Haj and Umrah on the removal of Umrah fees.

According to the information, the news was published in Pakistani media and rumors were spread on social media that after boycott of Egypt on Umrah fees, the Ministry of Haj and Umrah removed the extra SR2,000 fees from the second or additional Umrah visits, and that the Saudi government informed their embassies in all countries about this, which was totally false, confirmed the Pakistan Umrah Agent Association.

Virtues of Umrah in Ramadhan

O visit the Holy Lands in Saudi Arabia in the month of Ramadhān is praiseworthy.

It is Sunnah to perform ‘Umrah at least once in a lifetime for a person capable (physically and financially) to do so while performing more than once remains a desirable act (mustahabb). The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) came to perform ‘Umrah four times during the Madinan period. A number of virtues have been reported from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) in several narrations of which two are as follows:
  • “An ‘Umrah to another ‘Umrah will be redemption of sins (minor)for whatever occurs between them and the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.” (Reported by Bukhari and Muslim)
  • “Frequently perform Hajj and ‘Umrah, because they certainly remove poverty and sins as fire separates the impurities from iron, gold and silver.” (Reported by Tirmidhi and IbneMajah).
  • Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) narrated that when the Prophet (PBUH) returned after performing his Hajj, he asked Umm Sinan Al-Ansari, "What did forbid you to perform Hajj?" She replied, "Father of so-and-so (i.e. her husband) had two camels and he performed Hajj on one of them, and the second is used for the irrigation of our land." The Prophet said (to her), "Perform 'Umrah in the month of Ramadan, as it is equivalent to Hajj (in reward)."The hadith has been reported by Bukhari. Muslim also reported the same and it says in the end “It is equivalent to a Hajj performed with me (in reward).”

Al-Bukhaari (1782) and Muslim (1256) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to a woman from among the Ansaar – Ibn ‘Abbaas mentioned her name but I forgot it – “What kept you from performing Hajj with us?” She said: We only have two camels and the father of her son and her son had gone for Hajj on one camel, and he left us the other camel so that we could carry water on it. He said: “When Ramadaan comes, go for ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in (that month) is equivalent to Hajj.”

‘Umrah in Ramadaan is equivalent to Hajj. Al-Bukhaari (1782) and Muslim (1256) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to a woman among the Ansaar, “What kept you from doing Hajj with us?” She said, “We only had two camels that we used for bringing water.” So her husband and son had gone for Hajj on one camel, and he left the other for them to use for bringing water.” He said, “When Ramadaan comes, go for ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in Ramadaan is equivalent to Hajj.” According to a report narrated by Muslim, “… is equivalent to doing Hajj with me.”

We must understand that going for `umrah in Ramadan is Sunnah. It is not an obligation and should not be treated as one.

Indeed, the majority of scholars hold the opinion that performing `umrah in one’s lifetime is not a religious obligation at all. This is the view of the Hanafî and Mâlikî schools of though. It is also one of the views expressed by Ahmad b. Hanbal. Al-Shâfî also one time held this view, and it seems to have been his older opinion, The official position of the Shâfi`î school of law is that `umrah is obligatory upon a Muslim, just like Hajj, once in a lifetime.

The stronger of the two opinions – and Allah knows best – is that `umrah is not an obligation. The Qur’ân clearly mentions the obligation of the Hajj without once indicating anything similar for `umrah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) further emphasized this by saying: “O people! Allah has enjoined the Hajj upon you, so go for Hajj.” [Sahîh Muslim (1337)]

And by saying: “Islam is built upon five things: the testimony that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the establishment of prayer, the payment of Zakâh, the pilgrimage to the House, and the fast during the month of Ramadan.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (8) and Sahîh Muslim (16)]
